We will establish your child’s starting point through an initial, free assessment - any key findings will be communicated to you. We will then create a personalised 6 week study plan that is adaptable depending upon your child's development and will be updated every 6 weeks. We will work at a comfortable pace for your child while also challenging them.
This covers all primary level subjects and can be used to support and reinforce any areas taught at school whether for a short-term period or for ongoing assistance with any difficult topics.
Our 11+ tuition focuses specifically on the GL assessment material, which is used by Ermysted’s Grammar School. Because the 11+ exam content is more developed than the standard curriculum, many look for additional support to help prepare their child for the 11+ entrance exams. Carole has specialised knowledge of the GL Assessment exams having organised and administered these exams at her previous school.
Topics are revised and skills are reinforced for:
Mathematics, English comprehension and grammar, word recognition and meanings. For Ermystead's, there would also be preparation with verbal reasoning and non-verbal reasoning.
SGHS now use the Future School's Community Enterprise entrance test for entry into year 7. This new test is based on the year 5 Programme of Study (National Curriculum) and tests application of knowledge and skills taught up to and including year 5. In this test, there is a strong emphasis on problem solving in Maths and English. Preparation for the SGHS test would concentrate on building confidence in the trickier aspects of the year 5 Maths and English syllabus. We would also help develop their thinking skills so that they can apply learned knowledge rather than just recall it.
In addition, we will work with you and your child on preparation for the tests themselves.
This includes examination technique and timing, application of skills taught, re-focus techniques and best practice for the weeks running up to the examination.

Tutor really good, explains problems fully and is not afraid to change lesson plan to suit pupil's learning when required. She had a schedule to cover maths and English but it became apparent verbal reasoning was more of an issue so adapted her plans straightway.
Carole has taken the time to understand our son and connect with him, he is developing really well and the pace of work is set right to him, them is no expectations for him to do anything quicker or differently.
Carole gave my son a problem to work at and then asked him to explain how he got to the solution, although it was a different method there was no expectation for him to change how he had been taught, and he was excited to be able to show her something he knew.
